WHAT IS EXTENDED SERVICES?     [back to top]

Stockingford Junior School is working in partnership to deliver the Extended Services agenda in the Stockingford and Manor Park area of Nuneaton.

Extended Services provide: “a range of activities and services, often beyond the schools day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community” (Department for Education and Skills)

An extended service is one that works in partnership with a wide range of local providers and other schools to provide access to a range of quality services and provision. These services fall under one or more of the following headings and are known as “the core offer”:

  • A Varied Menu of Study Support

  • Parenting Support including Family Learning

  • Swift and Easy Referral to specialist services

  • Quality Childcare from 8am -6pm

  • Wider Community Access to school facilities.

Not all activities and services will take place on school site so effective “signposting” will form an integral part of the core offer. The government’s target is for all schools to be delivering this core offer by 2010.

WHO ARE THE STOCKINGFORD & MANOR PARK CLUSTER?     [back to top]

The Stockingford and Manor Park Cluster for Extended Services have been established since January 2006 with the specific remit of delivering the Extended Schools agenda within the following 4 schools:

  • Stockingford Early Years Centre and Library

  • Stockingford Infant School

  • Stockingford Junior School

  • Manor Park Community School

The schools have received initial funding from Warwickshire County Council to employ Sam Fletcher as the Extended Services Coordinator for the cluster. Having established the need for more out of school activities Sam’s role is to build on the excellent partnerships and to deliver more Art, Drama, Music and Dance clubs across the cluster.

The cluster is concentrating on delivering a wide range of activities for children and their families before and after school. To help achieve this and encourage children to take part in different activities the schools have signed up to the Children’s University and Kids College accreditation scheme (where applicable). The scheme encourages children in school years 5 – 8 to participate in extra-curricular activities and recognises their achievements through certificates and medals. Look out for new and exciting clubs running at your school in the near future!
