Inclusion Policy

At Stockingford Junior School we believe that:

  • Every human being has an entitlement to personal, social and intellectual development and must be given an opportunity to achieve his/her potential in learning.

  • Every human being is unique in terms of characteristics, interests, abilities, motivation and learning needs.

We feel it is our duty to take account of these wide diversities and to provide equal opportunities for all pupils, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background.

We believe that our first responsibility is to all the students and stress the importance of working alongside parents and the community to achieve the aims of this policy, in line with the school’s mission statement.

Aims of the Policy

  • To ensure that there is an agreed understanding within the school of the broader meaning of the term inclusion, that it concerns the entire process of education and not simply where the child is placed.

  • To ensure that staff recognise the link between inclusive education and catering for diversity, valuing all pupils, in line with the whole school ethos.

  • To foster a climate, which supports flexible and creative responses to individual, need.

  • To recognise inclusion as part of the school’s equal opportunity policy with clear arrangements for its implementation, funding and monitoring.

  • To ensure that all school developments and policies take account of inclusive principles.

  • To ensure that the admission of pupils with SEN is handled positively and sensitively. While in some cases additional support and advice may be necessary to ensure that children’s needs are adequately met, all parents and children should be made to feel welcome.

  • To ensure appropriate assessment and support arrangements are in place, both within school and involving external agencies, so that children’s needs are properly addressed.

  • To work effectively with the LEA and outside agencies to promote inclusion.

  • To enable staff to access suitable professional development which will support the development of inclusive practices.

To achieve these aims the Senior Management Team, in particular the SENCO team, will work alongside staff, parents, pupils and governors to provide training and resources to enable implementation.

This policy is available for all staff and was created for Stockingford Junior School by Kevin Smart…

Policy review – this policy will be reviewed annually.
