Memories Of Stockingford Junior School

Dale Parr- 'Schooldaze!!!'

I was at Stockingford Middle School for only 2 or 3 years although my brother and sister, Craig & Susan, were there for longer. I do have several memories however...

  • There was no school uniform..

  • I remember school dinners when you had to walk to the prefabs outside the school gates..

  • I remember a demon called Mr Swain who played the piano during assembly but was better on the cane..

  • He once gleefully told us that we were going to sing a pop song in assembly for a change - 'Morning Has Broken'..

  • I remember “Watching the Clock” – I guess this was some sort of petty punishment for misdemeanours..

  • I had a teacher called Mr Blow or Blows – I remember reading 'The Hobbit' in class and learning the binary system..

  • We did Country Dancing in the hall..

  • I remember the 3 day week and power cuts and going home in rotas. Also remember the breadstrikes of the 70’s..

  • Buying sweets from the shop outside -  Coca cola seemed exotic..

  • The tuckshop sold potato puffs..

  • Potato printing..

  • School bonfire nights were always OK..

  • We used to play 'British Bulldog' on the playground..

Of course this was all in the previous century….
