Drugs Policy

At Stockingford Junior School we are fully aware of the issues posed by tobacco, alcohol, solvents and harder drugs in society. We feel that it is our duty to educate our young people, enabling them to make informed decisions in their lives in, outside and beyond school. We believe that our first responsibility is to the children and stress the importance of working alongside parents and the community to achieve the aims of this policy, in line with the schools stated mission.

Aims of the Policy

  • To provide information and understanding about drugs incidents alongside an underlying message that harmful drugs taken outside a medical context should always be avoided.

  • To give our children access to appropriate information about all kinds of drugs and the opportunity to talk to somebody about concerns or incidents involving drugs.

  • To educate children via a variety of teaching methods in order to cater for different abilities and learning styles.

  • To work alongside parents and the wider community, seeking help from outside agencies.

  • To provide help and understanding in relation to drugs incidents and to sanction and punish as a last resort to preserve the safety of others.

To achieve these aims drugs education will form part of the ‘Health Education’ topic in Year 5 and will be revisited in Year 7, in line with the statutory requirements at Key stages 2 and 3. Training and resources will be made available to enable staff to implement the policy.
